General Summary
The Buyer is responsible for the buying and expediting of shipments and transportation of materials at Customer’s or Hub Manager’s request. He/She will work with suppliers and staff to effect the best value to our customers, balancing price, lead time, and logistics. The Buyer will confirm with suppliers that orders are shipped within projected schedule and troubleshoot delays and communicate problems promptly with Customers.
Individual Responsibilities:
- Monitor purchase requisition backlog
- Analyze requisition content, including customer specifications
- Interface with planners to ensure accuracy of purchase requisitions
- Gather pertinent information to prepare requisitions for order placement.
- Determine viable sources of supply
- Solicit bid proposals
- Enter purchase orders into database
- Provide hard copy purchase orders to suppliers
- Prepare and maintain purchasing files and reports
- Monitor shipments to ensure materials are received on time.
- Contact suppliers to expedite deliveries, resolve shortages, and follow up on late deliveries or other problems.
- Interface with staff and suppliers concerning order status, changes, non-conformances, or cancellations.
- Interface with Customer(s) routinely to address issues directly related to the timely supply of ordered materials.
- Reconcile freight and material invoice discrepancies and approve invoices for payment
- Maintain and report backorder and expected delivery status
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma required. College degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2-4 years purchasing experience.
- Familiarity with military and/or aerospace specifications and chemical related materials is preferred.
- Strategic sourcing techniques a plus.
- Exposure to a manufacturing environment a plus.
Skills:
- Must be proficient in Microsoft office packages
- Must possess good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work assignments in order to meet tight deadlines.
- Detail oriented and able to consistently provide the highest level of quality.
- Must be reliable and able to multi-task in a stimulating and challenging environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with all levels of internal and external customers.
