Job Title: CMS Waste Technician

General Summary: Perform Hazardous Waste and Hazardous Materials Operations including collection, distribution, segregation, consolidation, labeling and preparation for disposal based upon hazard classification compatibility of materials. Identify and classify unknown chemicals. Prepare Hazardous Waste Manifests and prepare waste for shipment to TSDF. Conduct routine inspections and maintain records. Maintain accumulation facility, equipment and accumulation areas and advise personnel on proper hazardous waste management.
Perform CMS functions including receipt of materials by verifying shipping documents with materials delivered to designated location. Receive, issue, store, deliver, track, and maintain hazardous materials for all designated chemical holding areas. Monitor and maintain inventory records by performing data entry, complying with record accountability functions. Communicate material hazards, physical properties and safe handling procedures with customers.
Individual Responsibilities
- Utilize hand scanners, perform chemical scanning procedures according to provided guidelines. Update scan data as necessary to maintain optimum customer inventory by stocking chemical usage areas as needed. Gather, deliver, and stock appropriate materials by using provided delivery equipment.
- Coordinate with customers in a courteous and professional manner with all chemical concerns, providing guidance and instruction as needed.
- Respond to hazardous material releases and provide 1st responder assistance to customer for spill cleanup according to Safety and Health standards. Utilize and interpret chemical detection devices and associated equipment.
- Maintain company and customer owned equipment by complying with maintenance standards and procedures as directed in the applicable guidance.
- Monitor and direct day-to-day operations of the assigned site to ensure that policies and procedures are being followed; that goals and objectives are met, and that services and projects are being accomplished efficiently and effectively. Implement corrective action as necessary.
- Support Business Development organization in identifying, evaluating, and establishing new business originating within site. Support quality objectives, providing metrics input to Management Review for performance and quality improvement.
- Keep accurate records of shipments for accounting, billing, inventory, and delivery purposes. Prepare packing slips, bills of lading and other shipping forms, filing documents as necessary. Trace delayed or lost shipments and reports problems to management.
- Operate forklifts and other equipment, as necessary, to support chemical management activities.
- Compare inventories to office records or computes figures from records such as sales orders, production records or purchase invoices to obtain current inventory.
- Provide assistance to Management, Buyer, and Customers upon request. Follow appropriate documented processes and procedures documenting exceptions encountered during normal performance of duty.
- Perform regulatory inspections in accordance with provided standards.
- Demonstrate ability to work proficiently with co-workers and independently.

Education and Experience:
- BS or AA Degree in chemistry or other science.
- Prefer 40 hour Hazwoper trained.
Skills:
- Must have excellent computing skills, be able to operate warehouse equipment, and have a basic working knowledge of procurement, warehousing and inventory management functions.
- Must be able to read, write and interpret documents such as regulations, operating procedures and safety rules.
- Must have the ability to speak effectively with co-workers, customers and management.
- Must possess mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure including using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Must be able to periodically lift 50 pounds.
