We have an opportunity in our Austin, TX location for a Buyer experienced in working in any of the following areas: commodity or lab chemicals, industrial gases, aerospace and defense, or utilities and electrical generation. The Buyer is responsible for the buying and expediting of shipments and transportation of materials at Customer’s or Hub Manager’s request.
Requirements:
He/She will work with suppliers and staff to affect the best value to our customers, balancing price, lead time, and logistics. The Buyer will confirm with suppliers that orders are shipped within projected schedule and troubleshoot delays and communicate problems promptly with Customers.
- Managing the purchase order process, and interact with various departments related to Inventory Management, Catalog, IT, Hubs, and Program Management.
- Ensuring Purchase Order accuracy by reviewing item descriptions, current pricing, shelf life of purchased materials; and purchase history..
- Working directly with Suppliers for specialized requirements.
- Communicating effectively with Haas Hubs and Suppliers to remedy all non-conforming deliveries.
- Creating open lines of communication internally and externally to continually seek process improvements towards quality assurance and cost reduction.
- Providing ongoing vendor relationship management and corrective action, as needed.
- Reconciling all invoice discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Tracking and communicating detailed status reports and performance metrics .
- Providing detailed summary to Hubs of incoming shipments.
Daily Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing Buy Order report daily to assess each item for: standard order quantities, min buy requirements, other available stock, correct item description, forecast and current demand trends, ability to combine for better price or lead time.
- Providing input to Inventory Management for new or changed item information regarding price and lead time, flammable materials, shelf life, and aid in developing economic order quantities and efficient JIT inventory levels.
- Creating Purchase Orders, ensure proper freight carrier, shelf life and specifications.
- Maintaining current order status, and expediting as needed.
- Correcting any supplier or freight carrier invoice discrepancies.
- Resolving any non-conforming deliveries, providing feedback, corrective action plan, as needed.
- Tracking expediting responses, and updating tracking spreadsheet with dates and quantities. Reviewing and maintaining records for submittals and results. Escalating delays and/or test rejections.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Working closely with supply team and Hub team to improve performance or to resolve Customer critical issues.
- Sourcing materials to obtain best value to the customer.
- Mentor and develop suppliers to help them become better meet the needs of Haas TCM
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma required, College Degree Preferred.
- Minimum one year as a Buyer.
Skills:
- Candidate must be proficient using MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Candidate must be able to work effectively in a high paced team oriented environment.
- Experience with chemical purchasing and specifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including customer service skills
- Must be organized and detail oriented to support multiple projects.
Preferred: Familiarity with warehouse operations, JIT delivery, MRO systems preferred.
